Position Overview
The Legal Counsel – Energy Storage (LAC) will act as a strategic legal business partner supporting the full lifecycle of battery energy storage projects across Latin America.
This role requires strong experience in complex commercial contracting, particularly in EPC, O&M, supply, and project development agreements within the energy or infrastructure sector. The successful candidate will combine technical legal expertise with pragmatic, solution-oriented thinking and a strong understanding of risk allocation in energy projects.
Main Responsibilities
1. Commercial & Project Contracting
- Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of agreements related to energy storage projects, including:
- EPC Agreements
- O&M Agreements
- Battery Supply Agreements
- Framework Agreements / MSAs
- Distribution and Channel Partner Agreements
- Vendor and subcontractor agreements
- NDAs, LOIs, MoUs
- Support tender processes and project bids, identifying legal and commercial risks.
- Structure and negotiate risk allocation mechanisms aligned with project finance and technical realities.
2. Business Partnering
- Act as a proactive and trusted advisor to Sales, Project Management, Procurement, Service and Finance teams.
- Provide practical, commercially focused legal advice to enable deal execution while protecting the company’s interests and targets.
- Support strategic decision-making in high-value and complex transactions.
3. Regulatory & Risk Management
- Provide guidance on local regulatory and compliance matters impacting energy storage projects.
- Identify and mitigate legal, contractual, and operational risks across the project lifecycle.
- Ensure contracts reflect applicable laws and regulatory requirements in relevant LAC jurisdictions.
4. Cross-Border & Regional Support
- Support cross-border transactions and coordinate with external counsel where required.
- Contribute to the standardization and improvement of contract templates and internal processes.
- Assist the Head of Legal – Energy Storage in strengthening the in-house legal function in the region.
